Sept. 25 - SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Bethany College cross country teams returned to the courses after a week off from competition by running at the NCAA Mideast Pre-Regional Meet Saturday, which was hosted by Carnegie Mellon at Coopers Lake Campground, the same site the Mideast Regional meet will be Nov. 13.
Both Bison teams ran as just individuals and the top finish of the day came from the men’s side. Freshman Cory Yarrington (Berkeley Springs, W.Va.) finished the 8K course in 28:04 to place 50th overall out of 198 runners.
Also competing for the BC men Saturday was freshman Hunter Akrom (Moundsville, W.Va./John Marshall), sophomore Josh Wentz (Philippi, W.Va./Philip Barbour) and freshman John Hajny (Piney Fork, Ohio/Buckeye Local).
The top women’s runner for Bethany Saturday was senior Joanna Mongelluzzo (Washington, Pa./Trinity), whose time of 26:03 on the 6K course was good enough for 85th place out of 178 competitors. Three other women’s runners had a chance to compete on the same course as this year’s regional meet, including junior Kaitlyn Black (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley), senior Emily Roth (Bexley, Ohio) and sophomore Melissa Davis (Lancaster, Ohio).
The Bison will be off again next week and return to competition Oct. 9 at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
