Sept. 15 - MARIETTA, Ohio – The Bethany College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in their third consecutive race Saturday when they competed at the Marietta (Ohio) College Carl Broughton Invitational.
BC’s women finished in fourth place out of eight teams, as they scored 133 to come in behind Otterbein (Ohio) College (30), Marietta (52) and Alderson-Broaddus (78). The Bison men took seventh place overall, placing in front of Ohio Valley University.
For the women, their lead pack once again consisted of two freshmen and one senior. Freshman Emily Roth (Bexley, Ohio) was the first Bethany runner to cross, taking 19th place out of 64 runners with a time of 22:00.63. Less than 10 seconds behind her was freshman Suzanne Stettinius (Parkton, Md./Hereford), whose time of 22:09.17 was good for 21st, while her sister, senior Chantal Stettinius (Parkton, Md./Hereford), took 24th with a time of 22:22.70.
Bethany’s other scored runners included sophomore Desiree Finley (Nanticoke, Pa./Hanover Area) in 40th and freshman Lindsay Brewer (Wadsworth, Ohio) in 47th.
The BC men’s efforts were paced by sophomore Zach Foster (Shadyside, Ohio/Bellaire St. John’s). He finished in 12th place overall in a 70-runner field with a time of 28:38.04. The next two runners to place were freshman Clifford Arbogast (Cameron, W.Va.) in 47th and junior Matt Schlemmer (Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak) in 52nd.
Both of Bethany’s teams will get a week to rest up before returning to the courses Sept. 29 at the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) Invitational.
