Sept. 20 - BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College women’s cross country claimed the top five positions and the Bison men’s team took the first three spots to highlight the Bethany 5K Tuesday afternoon, as BC hosted Pitt-Greensburg.

Senior Joanna Mongelluzzo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) took first place for the women with a strong run, breaking the tape at 20:26.27. The freshman duo of Jess Olson (Moon, Pa.) and Rhianna Petrone (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) were next to cross for the Green and White, as Olson clocked in at 21:49.47 and Petrone’s time was 22:54.26.
Completing the BC sweep of the top five positions were sophomore Heather Hamm (Fairfax, Vt./BFA Fairfax) in fourth (23:46.43) and senior Kaitlyn Black (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) in fifth place (23:52.87). Rounding out the Bison runners Tuesday was junior Melissa Davis (Lancaster, Ohio) in ninth place overall.

For the men, Bethany had only three runners, so it could not score as a team, but that didn’t prevent the Bison from earning the top three places. Sophomore Cory Yarrington (Berkeley Springs, W.Va.) was first to the line in a time of 17:42.27. Senior Joe Douglas (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) earned second place with a time of 18:41.75 and just behind him was freshman Bobby Striker (Hinton, W.Va./Oak Hill) in third place (18:47.87).

The Bison runners will return to action Oct. 1 by competing at the Pitt-Greensburg Invitational.
