Bethany Women’s Cross Country Wins PAC Sportsmanship Award
Nov. 26 -GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Bethany College women’s cross country team earned the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Fall Team Sportsmanship Award, as announced by the conference office.
The PAC Team Sportsmanship Award program was started during the 2008-09 sports season and is an ongoing effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among conference teams. The award is sponsored by the PAC Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), a committee comprised of student-athletes from each member institution that assemble to provide insight on the student-athlete experience.
This is the fifth year the PAC Team Sportsmanship Awards will be given out in each of the 19 PAC sponsored varsity sports. Each PAC team was asked to vote for the conference team in its sport which displayed the highest level of sportsmanship. The awards are handed out at the conclusion of the fall, winter and spring seasons.
This marks the first time the women’s cross country program has been recognized with the Sportsmanship Award. It’s also the first time a Bison program has been acknowledged with a Team Sportsmanship Award since the women’s track and field program was lauded with the honor three consecutive seasons from 2009-11.
On the trails this fall, Bethany served as host for the 2012 PAC Cross Country Championships. The Bison finished ninth overall as a team and had one runner earn all-conference recognition. Freshman Brooke Bosworth (St. Clairsville, Ohio) finished in 20th place overall with a time of 24:46.50 to claim Honorable Mention All-PAC status.
