Sept. 7 - ELKINS, W.Va. – Bethany College’s men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in their first race Saturday when they ran at the Forest Festival hosted by Davis & Elkins College.

The Bison were the only Division III team to participate, but the BC women still placed fifth out of eight teams. Among those the Green and White scored better then were Davis & Elkins, Fairmont State and Glenville State.

The top runner for Bethany was sophomore Suzanne Stettinius (Parkton, Md./Hereford), who finished 16th overall out of 70 runners with a time of 27:24.37. Junior Maggie McCort (Fort Ashby, W.Va./Frankfort) also placed in the top 25 by crossing in 22nd among scored runners (28:20.29).

Also competing for the Bison was junior Jodi Bodo (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville Catholic Central) in 38th, senior Laura Strassguetl (Munich, Germany/Rupprecht Gymnasium) in 39th, junior Alissa Moss (Washington, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) in 42nd and sophomore Lindsay Brewer (Wadsworth, Ohio) in 44th.

Bethany’s men had injuries which kept runners out of Saturday’s meet, so they did not have enough to score as a complete team. Senior Matt Schlemmer (Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak) was the first BC runner to cross in 36:36.64. Also competing for the Green and White was junior Patrick Miller (Canonsburg, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) and freshman Richard Strassguetl (Munich, Germany/Rupprecht Gymnasium).

The Bison teams will return to the course Saturday when they run at the Marietta (Ohio) College/Carl Broughton Invitational.
