Sept. 5 - NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The 2009 season got underway Saturday for the Bethany men’s and women’s cross country team, as they competed at Westminster’s Fisher Invitational.

Paced by a strong showing from freshman Erin Reske (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern), the BC women finished seventh out of 11 full teams, while the Bison men did not have enough to score.

Reske highlighted the day for the Green and White, as her time of 25:48.6 over the 6K course was good enough for 22nd place overall out of 109 runners. Coming in next for Bethany was senior Maggie McCort (Fort Ashby, W.Va./Frankfort), who earned 44th place with a time of 27:06.

Another freshman was the third across for BC, as Emily Andrews (Absecon, N.J./Holy Spirit) placed 49th. Also competing for the Bison was junior Desiree Finley (Nanticoke, Pa./Hanover Area), senior Jodi Bodo (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville Catholic Central) and senior Alissa Moss (Meadow Lands, Pa./Chartiers-Houston).

A trio of men competed for Bethany on Saturday, with senior Patrick Miller (Canonsburg, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) finishing as the top runner in 89th place. Freshman Josh Wentz (Philippi, W.Va./Philip Barbour) and sophomore Pasha Utt (Lahore, Pakistan/LAS) also ran at Westminster.

Both teams are off next weekend and will return to the courses Sept. 19 at the Penn State Behrend Invitational.
