Bison Runners Turn in Impressive Performances at PSU-Behrend
Sept. 15 - ERIE, Pa. – Freshman Brooke Bosworth (St. Clairsville, Ohio) highlighted a good day for the Bethany College cross country teams at the Penn State Behrend Invitational by taking 13th place overall and leading the team to an eighth place finish overall.
The women’s overall placement came out of 16 teams, while the Bethany men scored 10th overall out of 17 teams.
Bosworth crossed the finish line with a time of 20:57.4, which was 13th out of 137 runners overall, but also eighth among Division III competitors. Sophomore Jessica Olson (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) scored in the top 30 overall as well, coming in 28th with a time of 21:42.6.
The Bison’s third runner to come across was junior Heather Hamm (Milton, Vt./BFA Fairfax), who earned 57th place. The next two Bethany competitors just missed placing in the top half of the results, as junior Chelesi White (Elkins, W.Va.) and freshman Gabri Bonazzo (Gassaway, W.Va./Braxton) came in back-to-back in 69th and 70th, respectively.
Bethany’s top two men also crossed very close together. Sophomore Cody McDonald (Martinsburg, W.Va./Musselman) was first to finish for the Green and White, coming across in 34th place with a time of 28:18.2. Just four spots back in 38th was freshman Ryan Donnelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills), who posted a time of 28:28.8.
The next three BC runners also finished fairly close together in terms of placement in the 139-runner field. Junior Hunter Ankrom (Moundsville, W.Va.) was 81st overall, with freshman Brenton Nutter (Zanesville, Ohio) five positions back and freshman Chris Troyer (Gnadenhutten, Ohio/Indian Valley) 10 spots back of Ankrom.
After opening the season with three straight weekends of competitions, the Bison will take next Saturday off. The next time BC will be on the course will be Sept. 29th when Bethany hosts its own Invitational, which will serve as a warm-up for the PAC Championships at Bethany in October.
