Oct. 13 - OBERLIN, Ohio – Competing in their largest race of the season and their last tune-up for conference championships, the Bethany College men’s and women’s cross country teams turned in strong times at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble Saturday.
The Bison women finished 28th overall out of 30 teams, while the BC men were one runner short of posting a team score. The top men’s team on Saturday was SUNY-Geneseo and Oberlin captured the women’s team championship.
Leading the way for the Bethany women was freshman Brooke Bosworth (right - St. Clairsville, Ohio). Her time of 24:01.4 was good for 133rd place out of 270 runners. Sophomore Jessica Olson (Moon, Pa.) was the next BC runner to cross, taking 175th overall in a time of 24:46.3.
The other Bethany runners to score were freshman Gabri Bonazzo (Gassaway, W.Va./Braxton), freshman Kelsea Martz (Hedgesville, W.Va.) and senior Katrina Miller (Avella, Pa.). Freshman Rebekah Hudock (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) also ran in the meet.
Although the four Bison men could not earn a team score, they all posted PRs in what proved to be a very fast race. Freshman Ryan Donnelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) broke the finish line first for the Green and White, as he came in 158th overall in the 275-man field. He clocked in with a time of 26:46.9.
Following Donnelly (right) was sophomore Cody McDonald (Martinsburg, W.Va./Musselman), who finished in 27:23.0 to take 191st place. Completing the Bison runners on Saturday were freshmen Brenton Nutter (Zanesville, Ohio) and Chris Troyer (Gnadenhutten, Ohio/Indian Valley).
Next up for Bethany will be the 2012 PAC Championships, which the Bison will host on Saturday, Oct. 27th. The men’s race will go off at 11 a.m. and the women will follow at noon.
