Sept. 13 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College cross country programs competed on Saturday morning as they hosted the Bethany Invitational. A total of 30 combined teams participated in the event. The Bison women brought home a seventh-place finish while the men took home 15th.
On the women’s side, senior Rhianna Petrone (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) was the first Bison to cross the finish line, finishing the race in 22nd place with a time of 25:46. Jessica Olson (Moon, Pa./Moon) was the next Bethany runner to finish, notching a 27th-place mark with a 25:54.
Other runners to finish in the top half for the women included sophomore Michaela Ross (Wahiawa, Hawaii/Leilehua ), freshman Elizabeth Timas (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) and junior Alexi Pyles (North Hollywood, Calif./Granada Hills). Ross notched a 42nd-place finish (26:40) while Timas (26:45) and Pyles (29:01) were 44th and 69th, respectively.
On the men’s side, the Bison were led by sophomore Dylan Martinez’s (Wahiawa, Hawaii/Leilehua ) 75th-place mark (30:45). Freshman Donald Beirhals (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) and senior Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) were also among the top finishers for Bethany. Beirhals finished 81st with a 31:04, while James came in 82nd with a 31:07.
The cross country programs will be back on the course on Saturday, September 20, when they travel to Latrobe, Pa. to compete in the Saint Vincent College Invitational. Action is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.
