Sept. 27 - RIO GRANDE, Ohio – Sophomore Suzanne Stettinius (Parkton, Md./Hereford) took ninth place Saturday to highlight the Bethany College cross country teams’ day at the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) Invitational.
Paced by Stettinius’ effort, the Bison finished in third place out of five full teams, placing ahead of Division II programs Charleston and Ohio Valley. Bethany’s men only competed as individuals, as they did not have enough to score as a team.
Stettinius recorded her best showing of the season by taking ninth out of 51 runners. She crossed the finish line in a time of 20:50.45. Just behind her was junior Maggie McCort (Fort Ashby, W.Va./Frankfort), who finished 12th overall. The other three BC runners to score included junior Jodi Bodo (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville Catholic Central) in 21st, junior Alissa Moss (Washington, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) taking 27th and senior Laura Strassguetl (Munich, Germany/Rupprecht Gymnasium) finishing 28th.
For the Bison men, junior Patrick Miller (Canonsburg, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) was their top runner in 26th place, but was followed in 27th by senior Matt Schlemmer (Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak).
Bethany’s teams are off next week and return to action Oct. 11 by competing at the Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University Invitational in Pittsburgh.
