Sept. 7- BETHANY- W.Va. - The Bethany College field hockey team fell, 5-0, to Wittenberg on Saturday afternoon at Bison Stadium.
Laura Jansing earned her first victory of the season for the Tigers as she recorded one save on the afternoon.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jacqueline Harrison (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) turned away a season-high 13 shots in the defeat for the Bison.
Eva van Dijkman got the Tigers on the scoreboard at the 22:12 mark of the first half, as she fired a shot on goal from 15 yards out past the Bison goalkeeper.
The Tigers went up 2-0 with fourty seconds left in the opening period when Kim Loofbourrow shot the ball from the left side of the field into the goal.
Paige Vanerstrom scored another goal for the Tigers at the 39:38 mark of the second half, as she managed to get to the ball after a big scrum and shoot it into the empty net.
Wittenberg added two more goals in the second half and would go on for the 5-0 victory for its first win of the season.
Bethany returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 12 when they travel to Presidents’ Athletic Conference foe Washington and Jefferson with the game set for 7:00 p.m.
