Oct. 10 – SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Bethany College field hockey team defeated Transylvania University 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Bison (6-8) used two late goals to take home the victory.
The Pioneers (0-7) got on the board first as Jamie Wilder found the back of net in the 12th minute.
Transylvania totaled 10 shots in the half, but the Bison defense locked in and kept it a one-goal game. Bethany goaltender Courtney Snyder (Bristol, Pa./Bristol) had three saves in the period.
Bethany came out of the intermission with a whole new demeanor. The Bison offensive attack couldn't be stopped as the Green & White tallied 16 shots.
The Bison got on the board in the 58th minute as sophomore Angelica Darling (Silver Spring, Md./Silver Spring) took a pass from Natalie Knauer (West Deptford, N.J./Gateway Regional) and beat the Transylvania goalkeeper to make it a 1-1 game.
Knauer then broke the tie as she netted a goal in the 65th minute. Knauer’s three points were a season-high for the junior. Senior T.J. Solomon (Beltsville, Md./Elizabeth Seton) earned an assist on the score. She currently leads the Bison in assists (6).
Darling led the Bison offense with eight shots in the contest. Solomon added four of her own, while senior Courtney Gill (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands Regional) and sophomore Bailey Boardman (La Verne, Calif./Bonita) recorded three shots each.
Snyder finished the game with seven saves. The senior has played every minute in net for the Bison this season.
Bethany will return to action on Monday, October 12 as they take on Sewanee University at 2:30 p.m.
