Sept. 21 – ROANOKE, Va. – The Bethany College field hockey team stumbled on the road at Roanoke College, falling by a 3-2 score.
Bethany struck first, taking a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the contest. Sophomore Natalie Knauer (West Deptford, N.J./Gateway Regional) found the back of the net on a pass from junior Taylor Solomon (Beltsville, Md./Elizabeth Seton).
The score would remain the same as Bethany entered intermission with a 1-0 advantage.
The second half saw the hosts storm back, scoring three consecutive goals in a eight-minute span to take a 3-1 lead.
The Bison would not give up, however, as Solomon scored in the 62nd minute of action. That would be as close as Bethany would get, unfortunately, falling by a 3-2 count.
The offense was led by Solomon and Knauer. Solomon tallied a goal, while also adding an assist. Knauer also scored a Bison goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Tiffany McCary (Hanover Township, Pa./Hanover) played all 70 minutes at net, logging three saves on 14 Roanoke shots.
The Bison will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 24, as they travel to Frostburg State for a non-conference battle. Game time is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
