Oct. 17 -WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson struck for seven first-half goals and went on to a 10-0 victory over the Bethany College field hockey team Wednesday night.
The Presidents (10-6) fired off 28 shots in the first half and scored three times in the first 11 minutes to take a commanding lead.
Bison freshman goalie Jacqueline Harrison (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) had another solid night in net for the Green and White. She entered the game leading the nation with 18.42 saves per game and fresh off a 35-save performance in Saturday’s game at Frostburg State, which reset her own NCAA Division III single-game high this year. She made a total of 19 saves in the contest, including 15 in the first half.
Aiding in Bethany’s defensive efforts was freshman Caitlin Belbin (right - Hampton, Va.), who made two defensive stops. That gives her seven on the season, which moves her into a tie for 16th place in the country.
Next up for the Bison is their final home game of the season Saturday afternoon. Bethany will host Earlham (Ind.) College (0-13) in a 1 p.m. tilt on the Bison Stadium turf.
