Oct 31- BETHANY, W.Va.- The Bethany College field hockey team lost, 6-1, to Washington and Jefferson in its regular-season finale on Thursday evening at Bison Stadium.
Sophomore Jacqueline Harrison (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) recorded nine saves in the game for the Bison.
Amanda Steffey led all scorers in the game, as she netted four goals for the Presidents.
Freshman Lauren Rao (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) led the Bison with three shots and two shots on goal.
Harrison kept the Presidents off the board, as she make two great saves in the first eight minutes of the game.
Rao had a great scoring chance for the Bison at the 14:50 mark, as she put a shot on net but Kira Bunker made a great kick save to keep the game scoreless.
Steffey gave W&J a 1-0 lead, as she scored off a pass from Natalie Paul at the 16:14 mark.
Steffey scored her second of the game in the 26th minute. She scored off a pass from Catherine Beaudoin to give the Presidents a two goal advantage.
Bethany would not be phased by the two goal advantage, and would continue to generate scoring chances. Rao broke through with her third goal of the season. She fired a shot on net from the left side of the field past the goalkeeper in the 27th minute.
Beaudoin added a third goal for W&J, as she scored on a penalty stroke and the Presidents would take a 3-0 lead into the locker room.
Bethany continued to generate scoring opportunities in the second half but couldn’t get one past Bunker, as W&J would go on for the 6-1 victory.
The Bison finish the season with a 2-11 record but scored 17 goals on the season, which was eight more than they scored last year (9). Solomon led the team with six goals and 14 points.
