Oct. 14- DANVILLE, Ky.- Sophomores Courtney Gill (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands Regional) and Taylor Solomon (Beltsville, Md./Elizabeth Seton) each scored their third goal of the season but the Bethany College field hockey team fell, 6-2, at Centre College on Monday afternoon.
Gill and Solmon and are now tied for the team-lead with three goals on the season.
With the two goals scored in this afternoon’s game, the Bison now have eight goals on the season which is one behind the total (9) from last season.
Sophomore Jacqueline Harrison (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) had her second straight game of 16 saves which is the second most saves in a single game for the Bison this season.
Centre jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two goals in the first eight minutes of the game before Solomon scored the Bison’s first goal to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Praying Colonials added a third goal in the first half and would lead 3-1 at the halftime break.
The Bison earned a penalty corner and Gill netted Bethany’s second goal of the game as time expired in the 70th minute, but Centre would go on for the 6-2 victory.
“The girls showed a lot of fight today. To finish off the game executing a penalty corner is a testament to the girls’ hard work and how they never give up,” remarked head coach Stephanie Bernthal. “ Our offense continues to grow and get better each time out.”
Bethany returns to action tomorrow when it continues its two-game road trip in Kentucky as the Bison take on Transylvania at 2:00 p.m. The Bison’s lone win last season came in a 2-1 (OT) victory over the Pioneers.
