Bethany Announces 2013 Football Schedule

Updated June 6th -BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College football program has announced its 2013 schedule, which will be its first under new head coach Bill Garvey, and the slate will feature games against six teams who finished with at least six victories last fall.

Garvey’s first game as the 37th head football coach in Bethany history will be on the road, as the Bison travel to Centre (Ky.) College for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff on Sept. 7. The Colonels, who went to the NCAA playoffs in 2011, finished with a 6-4 mark last year, including a triumph at Bethany in the season opener.

The Bison will open PAC play Sept. 14 with a trip to Geneva for an 8 p.m. kickoff. The teams were originally slated to play Oct. 12th, but because both teams had open dates on the 14th, they agreed to move their game into September to have the bye week later in the season.

The Green and White will play its home opener at Bison Stadium Sept. 21st against a solid Randolph-Macon (Va.) program that posted a 7-3 record in 2012. It will be the first of three straight at home for BC, who will take on Grove City (6-4 record in 2012) Sept. 28th at 2 p.m. for the Homecoming game.

The three-game home stand is capped off by a visit Oct. 5th from long-time rival and defending PAC champion Washington & Jefferson. Kickoff for that game will be at 7 p.m. in just the fourth night game in Bethany history. The Bison battled the Presidents to the very end last year in Washington and a missed two-point conversion in the final minute left Bethany just short in a 28-26 defeat.

Following its bye week, the Bison venture out on the road for a trip to Waynesburg Oct. 19th. Kickoff is set for 1:30 against a Yellow Jacket team that went 10-1 last fall and won the ECAC Southwest Bowl in 2012. Bethany will return to Bison Stadium for its final two home games of the season. The Green and White will host Westminster on Oct. 26th and then take on Thiel on Nov. 2nd for Senior Day. Both games will kick off at 1 p.m.

The 2013 season will conclude with a pair of road tilts. Bethany will travel to Thomas More on Nov. 9th to battle a Saints team that went 7-3 last fall. The season finale will be Nov. 16th when BC goes to Latrobe, Pa., to take on Saint Vincent at 1 p.m.

“We are very excited about getting the 2013 season underway,” said Garvey. “Our non-conference schedule is once again as competitive as we’ve played with games against Centre College and Randolph Macon, two strong programs that will provide a great test for us to open 2013. And once again, the PAC appears to be as competitive as it has ever been. We look forward to the challenges that lie ahead every week in the conference.”
