Oct. 13 - WEXFORD, Pa. – Bethany senior free safety Matt Dahle (McKees Rocks, Pa./Sto-Rox) has been selected as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 12.

Dahle earned the honor after playing a big role in the Bison’s 42-21 Homecoming victory over Thiel Saturday. He made five tackles, broke up a pair of passes with two crushing hits and forced a fumble. The turnover he caused stopped a Tomcat drive at the Bison 13 with BC in front 7-0 in the first quarter.

This is the second PAC accolade Dahle has received in his career. In his sophomore season, he garnered the conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week award after returning a punt 62 yards for a touchdown in a victory over Thomas More.

This week’s award for Dahle comes after just his fifth career game as a defensive back. In addition to his punt return duties, he played wide receiver for the Bison though his first three seasons before moving to the defensive backfield this year. It has been a very good move for Dahle and the Bison, as he leads the PAC with 10.4 tackles per game, is tops on the squad with 52 total stops and is tied for second in the circuit with two forced fumbles.

Bison head coach Tim Weaver said moving Dahle to the secondary has worked because of his hard-hitting ability and says the second half of the season could provide more big plays from the BC senior.

“Matt is off to a really good start this season,” said Weaver. “He made an unselfish move last spring to help us on defense and it has worked out very well for him and for the team. He brings a level of physical play to our secondary that we’ve needed for a couple of years and he has a knack for being around the ball that you can’t really coach. He gets a little more comfortable and a little better every week and we’re excited about the second half of his season.”

A physical education major, Dahle is the son of MaryAnn Dahle and Richard Altmeyer of McKees Rocks, Pa.
