Oct. 5 - WEXFORD, Pa. – After leading the Bethany College football team to a 24-17 victory over Waynesburg Saturday, freshman QB Matt Grimard (Lowell, Mass./Dracut) has been selected as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 4.

The 6-4, 240-pound signal caller earned the honor after compiling 256 of the Bison’s 353 total yards in Saturday’s win over Waynesburg. He completed 17-of-22 through the air for a career-high 173 yards while rushing for 83 yards, including the go-ahead touchdown on a five-yard carry with 7:45 left that broke a 17-17 tie.

On the game-winning drive, Grimard completed all of his four pass attempts for 29 yards and then after Bethany’s defense stopped Waynesburg on their final drive, he ran for a pair of first downs, which allowed the Bison (2-3, 1-1) to run out the clock and earn their first PAC victory of the season.

Grimard has consistently improved every week this season. He had rushed for more than 100 yards in three consecutive games before Saturday and is currently second in the PAC with 518 rushing yards. He is also third in the circuit in total offense with 220.6 yards per game and his big passing game against Waynesburg elevated him to seventh in the PAC in passing yards per game, as he has completed 53-of-99 for 585 yards and four touchdowns.

“We’re very happy for Matt,” said Bethany head coach Tim Weaver. “His progress from week one to now has been really good to watch as a coaching staff. He takes coaching, understands concepts, learns from his mistakes and gets better every week. We think he’s a guy we can build around for a very bright future on offense.”

A psychology major, Matt is the son of Lisa Grimard and Stephen Grimard of Lowell, Mass.
