Oct. 21 - BETHANY, W.Va. – After returning a kickoff for a touchdown in last week’s victory at Thiel, Bethany College junior Jeff Joyce (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) was chosen for the National Team of the Week, presented by Scoutware.

With the Bison leading the Tomcats by three scores at halftime, Joyce took the opening kickoff of the second half, found a seam and sprinted 87 yards for a touchdown to increase the BC margin to 28-0. It was the first kick return by a Bison since Taylor McNeil returned one 93 yards for a score in a 42-7 win over Hiram Sept. 9, 2006. Joyce’s 87-yard runback is the second-longest in the PAC this season and vaulted him to fifth in the conference rankings in kickoff returns with an average of 25.3.

In addition to his long touchdown, Joyce is also a starting cornerback for the Bison and tied for the team-high with eight tackles against Thiel. He helped the BC defense limit the Tomcats to 175 total yards of offense and convert just 2-of-15 third down opportunities. Joyce is currently second on the team with 48 total tackles, as well as 3.5 tackles for loss and has broken up three passes this year.

“Jeff has had some nice returns for us this year, and he had a really big one called back (the week before at Westminster), so we’re glad he got one to the end zone that stood,” said Bethany head coach Tim Weaver. “Jeff is a dangerous guy when he gets the ball, and we expect to keep getting really good production from him in the return game. We’re happy people noticed the effort against Thiel. He played a really good all around game and helped lead us to a good road win. He’s playing a little better every week and we think he’ll have a really good last month of the season.”

An elementary education major, Jeff is the son of Donna and Jeff Joyce of Pittsburgh, Pa.
