Sept. 17 - WEXFORD, Pa. – Bethany senior football player Tim Stefanizzi (Brave, Pa./Waynesburg Central) was selected as a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Scholar-Athlete of the Month for Sept., 2009.

Stefanizzi was honored along with Westminster senior women’s tennis player April Scudere by the league. Each month, SAAC members at a PAC school nominate a student-athlete to highlight based on academic and athletic accomplishments. Honorees must be a varsity member in their respective sport(s) and in their junior or senior year. Scholar-Athletes of the Month must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and be actively involved on his or her campus community.

Stefanizzi is a four-year member of the Bison football program as a defensive lineman, playing in 20 games from 2006-08. In those seasons, he recorded 22 tackles (10 unassisted, 12 assisted) and was voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Second Team in 2008.

Off the field, Stefanizzi is majoring in forensic chemistry, and is a member of the American Chemistry Society and the Gamma Sigma Ephilon Chemistry Honor Society. He has earned Dean's List three times during his academic career and has a cumulative GPA of better than 3.35.

“Tim is a great example of what kind of person we want in our program,” said Bethany head coach Tim Weaver. “He’s worked really hard since he got here to become a player we trust completely when he’s in the game and is a guy we can win with. He has been an outstanding student in a very demanding major and still makes football a very high priority in his life. Tim is a great representative of what our program and Bethany College are all about.”

Tim is the son of Amy Beatty and John Stefanizzi of Brave, Pa.
