Oct. 21 – GREENVILLE, Pa. – Bethany College sophomore defensive back, Dion Williams (Clinton, Md./Frederick Douglass) has been named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Bison’s 27-20 victory over Waynesburg, Saturday.
Williams made perhaps the biggest play for the Bison in their 27-20 victory over Waynesburg last Saturday in Waynesburg, Pa. With the Yellow Jackets on the Bethany eight-yard line and set up for the go-ahead field goal, Williams knifed in and blocked the Alex Henry attempt, which allowed the Bison to take over at their own two-yard line and eventually score the game-winning touchdown with just 20 seconds remaining. It was Williams’ first blocked kick of the season. Along with his performance on special teams, Williams also totaled 4.5 tackles on the day.
Currently this season, Williams ranks fourth on the team in total tackles with 27.5 and leads the Bison in interceptions, having registered three so far. He has also defended three passes and helped the Bison defense hold their opponents to just 19.5 points per game over their last two contests.
Williams and the Bison will be back in action on Saturday, October 26 as they play host to the Titans of Westminster College. The contest is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
