Nadim Raddar Named AFCA All-American

Dec. 10 – WACO, Texas – Bethany College football standout, junior defensive Nadim Raddar (Laurel, Md./Old Mill) has been named to the American Football Coaches Association Division III All-American team, announced the AFCA on Tuesday morning.

The All-American award can be added to the list of Raddar’s season laurels as he was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year in November. He was also recently named a Second-Team All-Region by D3Football.com.

“Nadim is a really good football player and a great person,” remarked defensive coordinator Jacoby Watkins. “He is a joy to coach because he plays with a lot of effort and energy while always having a big smile on his face.  Nadim had an excellent start to the 2014 season which is a huge reason why we were able to start the year 5-1. Opposing offenses struggled to block him along with the rest of the defensive line.”

Raddar totaled 74 tackles in just nine regular season games and ranked among the Nation’s elite disruptive forces as over 25 percent of his tackles were for loss. Raddar finished 2014 with 21.5 TFL, recording at least 2.0 tackles for loss in seven of his nine games. On four of those instances he posted at least 3.0 tackles for loss. Along with those numbers, he also led the PAC in total sacks, posting 12.5 on the year.

Raddar led the way for a Bison defense that saw vast improvement during the 2014 season. In 2013, the Green & White defense ranked last in the conference in total yards allowed per game (437.1). However, Raddar helped lead a resurgence for the Bison defense, and the Green & White finished third in the PAC this season in opponents’ yards per game (335.3). They also ranked first in the conference, and among the Nation’s best, in total tackles for loss (120) and sacks (43).

Raddar was one of just two juniors to earn All-American status from the AFCA. He also becomes the first All-American of any kind for the Bison since offensive lineman Geno Ochap earned an Honorable Mention All-American award from D3Football.com in 2001.

“Nadim is a unique talent because he has great leverage and plays with an unbelievable motor every snap,” remarked Watkins. “I fully expect him to have another great season in 2015 and hopefully will lead the team to more success as a senior.”
