Weaver Named Defensive Coordinator at University of Delaware

Feb. 8 - NEWARK, Del. – Former Bethany College head coach Tim Weaver was officially announced as the defensive coordinator at the University of Delaware Friday, as he joined the staff of new head coach and long-time friend Dave Brock.

Weaver, who stepped down from his roles as head football coach and director of athletics and recreation after seven years at Bethany on Feb. 1st, joined the Blue Hens program this week. Offensive coordinator Bill Garvey, who was on Weaver’s staff all seven years and led the BC offense to 47 new school records, was promoted to be the 36th head football coach in Bethany history. In addition, sports information director Brian Rose was named acting director of athletics and recreation.

While Weaver is excited for the opportunity to join a Division I program alongside one of his closest friends, he said he will always have very fond memories of his time at Bethany.

“I want to thank everyone at Bethany, especially the players, coaches I worked with, administrative support staff, the College administration, especially (President) Dr. (Scott) Miller, for all the support I received during my seven years there,” said Weaver. “Bethany is a very special place and it will always be a very special place for me and my family.

“I knew shortly after I arrived at Bethany that it would take a great situation for us to move,” said Weaver. “And Delaware is a tremendous professional opportunity for me, a great opportunity for my family and a great chance to work with someone I’ve known for a very long time.

“I know the football program and athletic department at Bethany are in a much better place than when I arrived,” said Weaver. “But I have complete confidence that the College administration, Bill Garvey and Brian Rose will make it even better.”
