BETHANY, W.Va. — Bethany College is announcing the addition of a new minor in game development. This will provide students with another option to grow and develop their skills in a high-growth area in which employers are searching for talent.

Games and gaming have grown to a $185 billion dollar industry across mobile, PC, console, and VR/AR platforms. Bethany College’s game development program was built in collaboration with Unity Technologies – the #1 most used video game engine in the world – to focus on portfolio-building coursework and project-based learning. Centered around real-world lessons learned from industry partners, this new program ensures students are learning precisely the knowledge, skills, and tools that are in the highest demand for game developers in West Virginia and across the globe.

“I’d like to commend our faculty and academic leadership for working to create these new programs that are so relevant to today’s job marketplace,” says Bethany President Dr. Jamie Caridi. “These additional programs will be highly relevant to the workplace and economy for years to come.”

“We are happy to be able to provide students with additional options within the computer science major that help students learn the skills that employers are asking for,” says Provost and Dean of Faculty Dr. Anju Ramjee. “This new minor was created with the involvement of experts in the industry and will help prepare our students for exciting careers in these fields.”
