April 3 - BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany freshman Lance Beckwith (Raleigh, N.C./Word of God Christian Academy) was voted as the ECAC South Region’s Rookie of the Year by the coaches of the region, as announced Thursday by the conference.

The 6-0 guard paced the Bison to a 17-12 record, a trip to the PAC Tournament Championship game and an invitation to the ECAC South Region Tournament. He led the team and ranked fourth in the league in scoring with 15.8 points per game, in addition to posting 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest. A two-time PAC Player of the Week during the season, Beckwith also ranked fourth in the circuit in steals (1.96) and seventh in free throw percentage (81.0).

Following the season, Beckwith was named First Team All-PAC, the first freshman in Bethany history to earn that honor. With Thursday’s announcement, he is also now the first Bison ever to receive Rookie of the Year status from the ECAC. Last season, Brody Jackson was a First Team selection and co-Player of the Year in the South Region.
