Oct. 23 - PITTSBURGH, Pa. – At the 2008-09 PAC Basketball Media Day Thursday afternoon, which was held at the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh, the Bethany men’s basketball team was predicted to place second this year according to the preseason poll.
Voters in the poll included conference head coaches, sports information directors and members of the media present at the conference media day.
Bethany, who brings back three starters from last year’s conference championship team that went 17-11, garnered seven first place votes and earned 153 points, just behind preseason favorite Washington & Jefferson, who were chosen first on 11 ballots and picked up 159 points.
Picked behind Bethany was Grove City with four first place votes and 133 points, followed by Thomas More (120 points and one first place), Thiel (96 and four), Westminster (87 and one) and Waynesburg (36).
"The projected parity of the PAC is more evident this season than any other in the history of the conference,” said first-year Bison head coach Mike Summey. “With six teams garnering first place votes from the coaches and media alike, there are great opportunities for each and every program in our conference. For Bethany Basketball to once again be chosen near the very top of such a balanced league is a credit to not only the young men currently in our program but those that have come before us. Our staff and team look forward to an exciting 2008-2009 campaign."
The Bison begin the 2008-09 campaign with a home game against LaRoche Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. They begin defense of their PAC crown Dec. 3 with a road trip to Thomas More.
