BISON MEN PICKED THIRD IN PAC PRESEASON BASKETBALL POLL
Nov. 4 - BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College men’s basketball team was tabbed to place third according to the preseason poll released following the 2010-11 PAC Basketball Media Day conference call today.
The Bison, who finished 19-9 last season with an 8-4 mark in PAC competition, received a pair of first place votes and 114 total points to come in behind Thomas More (eight first place votes, 131 points) and Thiel (seven first place votes, 128 points). Behind BC was the defending conference champ Grove City (two first place votes, 93 points), Washington & Jefferson (82), Saint Vincent (66), Westminster (47) and Waynesburg (23).
Under second-year head coach Andrew Sachs, who guided the Bison to a semifinal appearance in the ECAC Tournament last season for the program’s sixth consecutive trip to the postseason, Bethany has three starters and two other letterwinners back, along with seven newcomers to the team.
“We were picked third last year but we realize preseason rankings mean nothing because there is still a lot basketball to play,” said Sachs. “We are still trying to find an identity after losing three of our top four players from last year, but I know we will compete this year and stay motivated to reach our goal of making the NCAA Tournament.”
Bethany will open the season Monday, Nov. 15 when they host Allegheny at Hummel Field House at 8 p.m. The opening PAC game of the season will be Wednesday, Dec. 1 at home against Westminster.
