BISON MEN PREDICTED THIRD IN PAC BASKETBALL BALLOT
Oct. 28 - BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany men’s basketball team was picked to place third when the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) unveiled its 2009-10 Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll Wednesday after a Media Day conference call.
Voters in the poll included conference head coaches, sports information directors and members of the media participating in the media day conference call.
With two starters back from a team that finished second in the PAC and earned a postseason bid for the fifth consecutive season, the Bison garnered 112 points and three first place votes in the poll. Defending conference champion Thomas More topped the rankings with 147 points and 15 first place votes, while Washington & Jefferson just finished ahead of Bethany with 115 points and four first place votes.
Rounding out the balloting after the Bison was Grove City (89 points, one first place vote), Westminster (88), Thiel (56) and Waynesburg (37).
“I felt we’d be somewhere in the top half of the league,” said Bethany head coach Andrew Sachs, who is in his first season after five years as an assistant at Holy Cross. “We lost six of our top eight players and the kids are in their third system in three years, so there will be a learning curve. Finishing higher is something to shoot for and the season will play that out.”
The Bison’s season begins Monday, Nov. 16 at LaRoche, with their home opener slated for Nov. 24 against Muskingum. Conference action starts Sat., Dec. 2 at Westminster.
