Nov. 12 - GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Bethany College men’s basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll, announced by the conference office.
Coming off a 13-11 overall record, including a 10-6 mark in the PAC last season, the Bison will look to capture their third PAC title in the last four years. However, the team will need to replace five players from last year’s squad, including four of the team’s top scorers.
Senior Leslie Addy (Columbia, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) will lead the way for the Bison this season as he finished last year averaging 10.8 points per game. He also bumped his average up to 11.2 points per contest in conference play, while also shooting a team-high, 48% from the field against PAC opponents.
Joining Addy on the floor are returning seniors, Kevin Jackson (Baltimore, Md./Walbrook) and Tyrone Smothers (Baltimore, Md./Mergenthaler). Jackson finished the 2012-13 campaign averaging 7.1 points per game in conference play, while Smothers completed the season, scoring an average of 4.5 points per game against the PAC.
The leading vote getter in the PAC was Saint Vincent College. Last year’s PAC champions, the Bearcats received seven, first-place votes. Thomas More received the other two, first-place votes on route to being picked second in the poll while Thiel College and Bethany rounded out the top four.
The Bison will open their 2013-14 campaign at Frostburg State University on Saturday, November 16, at 7 p.m. Bethany will then return home for their first contest at Hummel Field House on Tuesday, November 19, when they take on the University of Mount Union at 8 p.m.
