PAC Selects Bethany’s Wilcox as Player of the Week
Dec. 17 -GREENVILLE, Pa. – Senior Nick Wilcox (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), who recorded two double-doubles in leading the Bethany College men’s basketball team to wins over Frostburg State and Olivet, was tabbed as this week’s PAC Player of the Week.
This marks the fifth time in Wilcox’s career he has earned the weekly conference award and the second consecutive week a Bison player has been touted with the honor. Junior Leslie Addy (Columbia, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) was the league’s honoree for Dec. 10th.
Wilcox spearheaded the Bison’s effort in a 96-55 rout of Frostburg State Dec. 11th, as he finished the game with 13 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. He also made a pair of steals in the triumph and his point total was aided by a near-perfect 7-for-8 performance at the foul line.
On Saturday in BC’s final game before the holiday break, the Green and White saw a 17-point first-half lead wilt away against Olivet (Mich.) College. The Comets took a 56-53 lead with five minutes, but Wilcox helped fuel a 10-3 run to close the game. With BC down a point and under two minutes to play, he drove to the basket and found Addy for the go-ahead lay-up. A minute later, Wilcox made a steal and his breakaway dunk helped the Bison cement the victory. The 6-3 forward finished the night with 10 points and 10 rebounds, his third double-double of the season.
The week just continued a stellar start to Wilcox’s final season. He is ranked in the top seven in the PAC in numerous categories, starting with his 4.0 steals per game to not only lead the PAC but he was ranked first in the entire county last week. Wilcox is also ranked seventh in the conference in scoring (15.6), second in rebounding (8.0), fifth in field goal percentage (50.9) and sixth in assists (2.8).
A pre-physical therapy major, Nick is the son of Sharon & David Lacey of Venetia, Pa.
