Jan. 23 - WEXFORD, Pa. – After leading the Bethany College men’s basketball team to a pair of league wins last week, junior Reece Mabery (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands) has been named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Player of the Week for Jan. 23.

The 5-11 point guard averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists while converting all 13 free throw attempts. In last Wednesday’s 77-63 triumph over Saint Vincent, Mabery was 9-for-9 from the charity stripe and 4-for-6 from the arc and finished with a game-high 27 points.

Then on Saturday, Mabery finished with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists in the Bison’s 78-57 victory over Grove City. The win kept Bethany, who is 16-2 overall, in second place in the PAV with an 8-1 conference mark.

Last week continued a stellar season for Mabery. Not only is he the conference leader in free throw percentage at 93.1 percent, but Mabery is also ranked second in all of Division III. In addition, he is ranked ninth in the PAC in scoring (13.9), fifth in assists (2.76), third in steals (2.24) and seventh in three-point percentage (39.1).

“Reece had a great week,” said Bethany head coach Andrew Sachs. “While he has started to establish himself as a true point guard, when we need baskets, he can certainly fill it up with the best of them in this league.”

A psychology major, Reece is the son of Robin Mabery of Natrona Heights, Pa.
