Jan. 9 - LATROBE, Pa. – Bethany senior Joe Testa (Amity, Pa./Trinity) scored 20 points, including the 1,000th of his career, and added 11 rebounds to help the Bison men's basketball team escape Saint Vincent with a 62-56 victory.

By scoring five of the last six points of the first half, BC took a 30-26 halftime lead. Testa, who entered the game needing 12 points to reach 1,000, hit the milestone with two foul shots at the 17:12 mark of the second half, which helped Bethany (9-4) take their largest lead of the game at 37-30. The Bearcats (5-9) bounced back with a 12-2 run and grabbed a 42-39 lead on a triple by B.J. McGill with 8:40 left.

The teams exchanged leads over the next few minutes before SVC took their final advantage when Edmond Wright hit a trey to make it 52-50. On the next possession, Bethany junior Nick Thomas (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) cashed in a triple with 4:23 left to put the Green and White in front and they never trailed again. The Bearcats were within a basket until the final 30 seconds when Testa hit one foul shot on two separate trips to the line, then scored a lay-up with six seconds to go to clinch the victory.

Testa led all scorers with 20 points and his 11 rebounds gave him his fifth double-double of the year. The 6-3 forward also became the 22nd player in Bison history to reach 1,000 career points. He was joined in double digits by freshman Nick Wilcox (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) with 11 and senior Jay Lyonett (Weirton, W.Va./Brooke) with 10.

Bethany will return to conference play Wednesday when they host Thomas More at 8 p.m.
