March 19 – BEREA, Ohio – The Bethany College lacrosse team (3-5) couldn’t overcome a slow start, falling to Baldwin Wallace University 17-2 on Wednesday evening.
The first period saw the Yellow Jackets take a 4-0 lead before a weather delay had both teams head back to the locker room. After the brief 30-minute delay, Baldwin Wallace picked up right where it had left off, tacking on two more goals to take a 6-0 advantage after one period.
The second frame saw the hosts extend their lead to 10-0, before Jake Holland (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) found Travis Granich (Huntington, W.Va./Huntington) for Bethany’s first goal of the contest with 2:21 remaining to play before half time.
The Bison would then enter intermission trailing by the same count.
The third period saw Baldwin Wallace tack on two more goals to extend the lead to 12-1.
After the Yellow Jackets pushed the advantage to 13 goals (14-1) in the final frame, the Bison would net their second goal of the contest after Brendan Wessells (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) received a pass from Kyle Dashiell (Parsonsburg, Md./Wicomico) at the 7:23 mark.
Baldwin Wallace would respond with three more goals, as the Bison were unable to make a push over the last seven minutes, falling by a score of 17-2.
Offensively Granich and Wessells led the Bison. Granich notched one goal to go along with six total shots. Wessells also tallied a goal as well as picking up five ground balls.
Dashiell and Holland also made their presence known, as Dashiell recorded an assist and grabbed six ground balls, while Holland accounted for an assist.
Goalie C.J. Studnicky (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) was sold in front of the net, registering 13 saves on 44 total Yellow Jacket shots.
The Bison will be back on the field on Saturday, March 22, when they travel to Bridgewater, Virginia to take on the Eagles of Bridgewater College. Game time is slated to start at 12:00 p.m.
