Sept. 13 - WEXFORD, Pa. – Bethany freshman Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) has been selected as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 13.

After a slow start to his first season in Green and White with one goal in his first four matches, James caught fire last weekend. He scored with just under 14 minutes left against Bluefield Saturday to give BC a 4-3 lead, but the Rams would score twice in the final 13 minutes to take a 5-4 triumph.

The next day, it would be James with the late heroics to lift Bethany to victory. He scored the first goal of the match at Marietta in the 23rd minute and scored again in the 61st minute to put the Bison on top 3-2. The Pioneers tied the game a short time later and the match appeared destined for overtime. But a Marietta turnover and a thru ball gave James a chance on a breakaway and he converted by beating the keeper to the far post for the game winning score in the 86th minute of a 4-3 triumph, which snapped BC’s four-match losing streak.

James’ big weekend lifted him to the top of the PAC rankings, as he now has five goals and 11 points overall. The Bethany freshman is just one goal ahead of teammate Cameron Ward (Toronto, Canada/Mowat), who has been a big part of James’ rapid development this season, according to head coach Sean Regan.

“Ark has played very well over the past week,” said Regan. “It took some time to adjust to the fast pace of the college game, but now that the goals have started to flow, we look for him to have a big rest of the year. Cam (Ward), Ark’s strike partner, has taken him under his wing and is a big reason for Ark’s early success.”
