Oct. 2- BETHANY, W.Va.- Senior Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa.) converted a penalty kick in the 74th minute to give the Bethany College men’s soccer team a 2-1 victory over Mt. Aloysius in a non-conference game at Hoag Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The penalty kick goal was James’ second of the season and his 12th overall goal of his senior campaign.

Freshman Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom/ Maidstone Grammar School) was great in net for the Bison as he turned away three shots for his fourth victory of the season.

Jim Smith scored the game’s first goal and gave the Mounties their only lead of the game, 1-0,  as he converted a penalty kick in the 26th minute for his fifth goal of the season.

Bethany outshot Mt. Aloysius 13-5 in the first half, but couldn’t manage to put  one past the Mountie goalkeeper as the score remained 1-0 heading into the halftime break.

Junior Yannick Niedworok (Manheim, Germany/Heidelberg) tied the game at one for the Bison in the 52nd minute with his second goal of the season. The Bison were awarded a free kick and played the ball into the eighteen yard box, which senior Adam Gibboney (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) flicked a header behind him right to Niedworok, who shot it into the empty net.

Senior Dustin Maiolo (Stevensville, Ontario/St. Michael) was fouled in the eighteen yard box, which gave the Bison a penalty kick in the 74th minute. James was picked to take the penalty kick, and placed it in the right side of the net, to give the Bison the 2-1 victory.

The Bison dominated the Mounties on the offensive end, outshooting them 22-8 including a 10-4 advantage on corner kicks. James led all players with six shots in the game.
