Sept. 24 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College men’s soccer program dropped a 2-0 decision to Muskingum University on Tuesday evening at Hoag Field.
The first 25 minutes of the game seemed to be dominated by the Bison, as they took six shots and held the Fighting Muskies without a shot. However, 25:50 in the first half, Muskingum registered its first shot and goal of the game, which came off the head of Cody Sprague to give the Muskies a 1-0 lead. The two teams would register just one more shot in the half and the Bison went into halftime trailing, 1-0.
In the 61st minute of the game, the Muskies rounded out the scoring. Muskingum took advantage of a corner kick and a good placement off the corner by Christopher Heine found the head of Liam Roche who buried the ball in the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.
The Bison would put on the pressure in the last 15 minutes as the team had four great scoring chances to try to bring the game closer. Two shots from Arkangelo James were turned aside by great efforts by the Musking net-minder, and in the 84th Lamine Balde hit the crossbar, to keep the game at 2-0, which would be the eventual, final score.
In the game, the Bison dominated the shot totals, registering 16 to Muskingum’s six. The Green and White also placed five shots on net, with three coming off the foot of James and one each coming from Balde and Jack Waters. The Bison also kept the pressure up on the Muskies over the course of the entire game, registering 13 corner kicks to the Muskies’ five.
The Bison will be back in action on Wednesday, October 2 when they host Mount Aloysius in a double header with the women’s program. The men’s game will immediately follow the women’s contest, which is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
