Oct. 9- NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.- The Bethany College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Westminster in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match on Wednesday afternoon at the Westminster soccer field.
Freshman Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom/ Maidstone Grammar School) got the start in net for the Bison and recorded three saves on the afternoon.
Joe Bonish made five saves for the Titans.
Bethany and Westminster played an evenly matched first half as each team recorded five shots.
The Bison forced Bonish to made four saves in the opening half, but he was up to the task as the game remained scoreless at the halftime break.
Austin Ewers gave the Titans a 1-0 lead as he converted a penalty kick in the 53rd minute.
Senior Lamine Balde (Guinea, West Africa/William L. Sayre) tied the game at one for the Bison with his sixth goal of the season in the 59th minute. Balde got to the ball when it was bouncing around in the eighteen yard box and he fired it in the net to tie the game at one.
Westminster outshot Bethany 4-0 in the first overtime, but Appleby was great in net and made one save to keep the game scoreless and send it into a second OT.
Neither team recorded a shot in the second OT and both teams played to their first draw of the season.
Bethany returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Grove City to face the Wolverines with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.
