April 26 - ERIE, Pa. - Behind a third-place finish at number three singles from junior Jared Roque (Munster, Ind./Munster), the Bison men's tennis team notched a fifth-place finish at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday.
After earning a spot in the consolation game of number three singles, Roque captured a third-place finish, defeating Westminster's Ryan Carr in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). With the win, Roque earned three points twoard the overall team score for the Bison.
Dylan Schooley (Washington, Pa./Trinity) captured points in two different flights, finishing fourth in both number six singles as well as number three doubles. In six singles, Schooley fell in three sets to St. Vincent's Dalton Yezovich (3-6, 6-2, 3-6). Partnered with Marcus Hooks (Stamford, Conn./Brien McMahon), the duo also scored a fourth-place finish at number three doubles, falling 8-3. Both fourth-place finishes earned the Bison two more points each.
Sophomore Kyle Booker (Forest Park, Ga./Forest Park) was the final Bison to earn points, earning a fourth-place finish at number four singles after falling 6-1, 6-4 to St. Vincent's Vince Anto. Booker's points gave the Bison nine in the championships, earning them a fifth-place finish.
The overall champion of the event was Grove City, who finished the event with 54 points. Saint Vincent came in second with 25 points while W&J finished third with 21 points.
Bethany's nine points and fifth-place finish marked the highest finish for the Bison since the 2010 Bison scored 16 points in a fourth-place finish.
