BETHANY, W.VA – Bethany College alumnus Nate Marko ’19 was selected by Major League Baseball to attend a national conference earlier this month! Marko received a scholarship through the Diversity Pipeline Program to attend the 12th annual Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) Analytics Conference. Marko is currently the director of hitting and strength conditioning, lead infield coordinator, and high school program director at Diesel Sports Complex in Pittsburgh, Pa.

“We’re excited to have individuals like Nate Marko gain an opportunity to grow and learn further how data is being used throughout Major League Baseball, hearing from industry executives and decision makers across the league,” says Tyrone Brooks senior director, front office and field staff of the Diversity Pipeline Program.

This year’s conference was held in Pheonix, Ariz., and consisted of research presentations and guest speakers, career development sessions, and industry networking opportunities. Those in attendance also had opportunities for skill development sessions and a complimentary one-year SABR membership and Rapsodo certification course. Marko says he is proud of this accomplishment, as it shows his hard work is being recognized.

“It is a major blessing to be selected by Major League Baseball and Mr. Tyrone Brooks to receive a scholarship and participate in the 2023 SABR Analytics Conference,” says Marko. “The recognition for this scholarship showed me that all of my hard work since and during my time at Bethany isn’t going unnoticed. I am very honored to receive this scholarship for my potential and I am very excited to make more connections within the game and see where this opportunity takes me.”
