Jan. 20 – GREENVILLE, Pa. – Bethany College sophomore standout Alexi Pyles (Los Angeles, Calif./Granada Hills Charter) has been named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Women’s Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week, announced the conference office on Monday.
Pyles had arguably her best week of the season for the Bison, notching eight victories in eight chances. In Wednesday’s 140-114 win over Frostburg State, she claimed individual wins in the 50 free (26.14) and 100 fly (1:02.51) and also swam successful legs on the first-place 200 medley (2:00.47) and 200 free (1:47.93) relays. In Saturday’s tri-meet with Saint Vincent and Chatham, Pyles captured the 100 back (1:05.71), 100 fly (1:02.62) and 200 IM (2:24.94) while anchoring the winning 200 free relay (1:48.02).
Pyles has contributed to the Bison’s outstanding season (12-3, 1-3 PAC), having placed first or second in 33-of-35 events, which has included 26 first-place victories. Her best event has been the 100 yard butterfly, where she has posted an undefeated record, winning all nine opportunities.
Pyles and the Bison will be back in the water on Saturday, Feb. 1, when they play host to Grove City College. Action is slated to start at 1:00 p.m.
