Nov. 7 – ALTOONA, Pa. – The Bethany College swimming & diving teams competed against PSU-Altoona on Saturday afternoon. The women’s team was victorious by a score of 82-76, while the men fell, 94-21.
The women had four different swimmers who earned the full nine points in at least one of their events. The four Bison, Christine Pray (Canton, Mich./Canton), Alaina Geer (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area), Mackenzie Bosley (Buckhannon, W. Va./Upshur), and Juianna Libengood (New Stanton, Pa./Hempfield), also teamed up and won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:55.75.
Libengood won the 200-yard freestyle (2:18.13) to gain the full nine points. She also took first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:12.26).
Pray placed first in two events on the day. In both the 1650-yard freestyle (19:39.36) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:42.16), Pray earned nine points for the Green & White.
Bosley turned in a first-place performance in the 100-yard backstroke (1:13.02). Bosley and Nicole Pack (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) picked up points in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 30.98 and 31.63, respectively.
Geer also earned full points for the Bison in the 200-yard IM (2:32.03) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:22.53).
On the men’s side, the relay team of Jeremy Starr (Warren, Ohio./Warren G. Harding), Cody Hussey (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck), Evan Byrne (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) and Cheyne Stresky (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) took home first in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:35.57), earning 11 points for Bethany.
Hussey and Stresky also performed well in individual events. Hussey easily won the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:53.7, while Stresky dominated the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.76). The two swimmers were the first to finish in the 500-yard freestyle as Stresky placed first (5:04.2) with Hussey (5:11.34) close behind in second.
Byrne earned first in the 100-yard backstroke with a final time of 59.37. Starr and Nolan Dale (Lock Haven, Pa,/Central Mountain) placed second (23.65) and third (25.79), respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle.
The Bison swimming & diving teams will be back in action at Cabrini College on Saturday, November 14 at 1:00 p.m.
