Jan. 8 – WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Bethany College swimming & diving teams came up short against Presidents’ Athletic Conference opponent Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday. The women dropped a 147-177 decision, while the men were defeated 146-103.
On the men’s side, Jacob Collas (South Park, Pa./South Park) continued to prove himself against stout competition, as he came away with first-place finishes in all three of his races. Earning all 27 of his possible points in the meet, Collas finished first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:05.52), the 200 yard breaststroke (2:27.52) and the 200 yard individual medley (2:14.71).
Helping the cause for the Bison was Brandon Martell (Sharon, Pa./Sharon), who earned 13 points in the diving events. Martell placed first in the one-meter dive with a total score of 175.0, and brought home a second place finish in the three-meter dive (163.15).
On the women’s side, Christine Pray (Canton, Mich./Canton) earned top honors in both of the distance events. She touched first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:36.56, and finished with the top time in the 1,000 yard freestyle (11:28.36).
Marina Baker (Winchester, Va./Sherando) also notched two first-place finishes in the meet. Baker, who had not lost a race through nine meets this season, took first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:13.40) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:43.78).
The Bison will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 11, when they will host a tri-meet with Franciscan University and WVU Tech. The meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
