Bethany Continues Indoor Season at Baldwin Wallace

Feb. 8 -BEREA, Ohio – The Bethany College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams continued its season Friday night by taking light squads to the Baldwin Wallace Invitational.

9130Jackson-McBride12.jpg The Bison men scored 29 total points to finish eighth overall out of 16 teams and the BC women totaled nine points to place 13th out of 18 participating schools.

All the points for the Bison women came from freshman Maria Jackson-McBride (right - Spotsylvania, Va./West Potomac), who was making her season debut on the track. Despite not running in the top heats of either event, she scored in two races. She broke the tape in 1:01.42 to earn third place out of 20 runners in the 400. Then in the 200, her time of 27.33 placed her sixth out of 20 competitors.

The top showings for the men on the track also came in the 400. Junior Arkangelo James (below right- Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and freshman Kyle Minger (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local) dominated, with James taking first place in a time of 52.29 and Minger coming in second at 52.88. The third place finisher was nearly a half-second behind Minger.

7768James10.jpgThe rest of the BC points came from freshman Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon) in the jumps. He finished third overall in the long jump with a measurement of 21-6.75 and earned fourth place in the triple jump with his top effort of 42-6.

Bethany will be back in action next Saturday, Feb. 16th by competing at the Kenyon (Ohio) College Invitational. It will serve as the final tune-up for the Bison teams before the Feb. 21st PAC Indoor Challenge at Youngstown State University.
