Bethany Opens Outdoor Season at Muskingum

March 23 - NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Bethany College track and field teams took a light contingent to Muskingum’s Amy Adams Memorial Invitational to begin the 2013 outdoor schedule and the meet was highlighted by a men’s relay qualifying for ECAC Championships.

Bethany, who is on spring break, took only a portion of its roster to the meet. The men’s team scored 25 points to finish 12th out of 15 teams. The top performances from the women’s team came in the 5K, where sophomore Jess Olson (Moon, Pa.) earned 10th place with a time of 20:42.74 and freshman Brooke Bosworth (St. Clairsville, Ohio) came across in the 11th place.

7144Moore12.jpg For the BC men, the 4x100 relay wasted no time in ensuring its season would run a little longer. The foursome of freshman Matt Brower (Washington, Pa.), freshman Umar Moore (right - Coraopolis, Pa./Moon), senior Raymear Pinchom (Willingboro, N.J.) and sophomore Anthony Thompson (Colquitt, Ga./Miller County) took fourth place with a time of 43.34.

The other relay also placed fourth overall, as the 4x400 team of freshman Kyle Minger (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local), sophomore Derrick Tolliver (Bellaire, Ohio), Pinchom and junior Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) turned in a solid season-opening time of 3:27.75.

In the individual events, a trio of Bison turned in top six placements. The top finish came in the long jump, where Moore placed second overall by posting a measurement of 21-4.75. In the 100, Thompson qualified for the finals in sixth place and moved one spot in the finals, as his finals time of 11.42 seconds had him fifth. And in the 400, Minger sprinted to sixth place by finishing with a time of 51.08 seconds.

Both of the Bison’s full rosters are expected to compete next Saturday when the teams make the short trip to Washington & Jefferson for the annual W&J Invitational.
