Bethany Opens PAC Track Championships Friday at W&J

April 26 - WASHINGTON, Pa. – The opening day of the 2013 PAC Championships for the Bethany College Track & Field teams was highlighted by a pair of second place finishes by the men and two women earning spots in the 100 finals on Saturday.

Seth Myers On the men’s side, senior Seth Myers (right - Valley Grove, W.Va./Wheeling Park) finished as the runner-up in the discus to earn Second Team All-PAC accolades. His top throw measured out at 134 feet, nine inches. Senior Michael Newman (Tampa, Fla./T.R. Robinson) also scored in the event, as he placed seventh overall with a throw of 126-8.

The other second place showing came in the triple jump. Freshman Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon) waited until his final jump to post a measurement of 43-7.75, which gave him Second Team All-PAC honors.

After the preliminary events on the track, BC will send a few to finals on Saturday. In the 110 hurdles, sophomore Austin Williams (Euclid, Ohio) posted the second-fastest time of 16.24 seconds to easily advance, while junior Zac Everhart (Gerrardstown, W.Va./Mussleman) also earned a spot in the championship heat with a time of 16.55 Friday. In the 100, sophomore Anthony Thompson (Colquitt, Ga./Miller County) will race in the title heat Saturday after finishing sixth in the prelims with a time of 11.21 seconds.

2091Grinkley13.jpg The Bethany women picked up one point during Friday’s events. Freshman Heather Grinkley (right - Woodbridge, Va./C.D. Hylton) placed eighth in the triple jump after measuring out her best mark at 31-9.25.

The Bison will send a pair of runners to the finals in the women’s 100 on Saturday. Junior Paige Prato (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) won her preliminary heat with a time of 12.92 seconds, which makes her the second seed for the finals. Freshman Kiera Goolsby (Washington, Pa.) will be in the same race, as she was seventh in the prelims with a time of 13.18.
