April 10 - MARIETTA, Ohio – The women’s team collected three first place finishes and the men’s team had one as well, as the Bethany College track and field teams continued their solid outdoor season Saturday at the Marietta Invitational.

Bolstered by the three first place finishes, the Bison women finished fourth out of seven teams with 76 points, while the BC men totaled 61 to finish fifth.

Seniors Jodi Bodo (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville Catholic Central) and Desiree Finley (Nanticoke, Pa./Hanover Area) had a hand in all three wins for the women. Bodo blew away the field in the 800 by crossing in a time of 2:20.31, more than eight and half seconds in front of the second place finisher. She also teamed with sophomore Kaitlyn Black (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley), junior Joanna Mongelluzzo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Finley to a first place showing in the 4x400 relay, as their time of 4:10.96 was nearly 12 full seconds faster than the runner-up team.

In addition to her win in the relay, Finley claimed first in the 400 Hurdles with a mark of 1:08.74. She also earned runner-up in the pole vault by clearing 9-3.25. Bodo also earned points in the field by taking fourth in the long jump with an effort of 15-4.

Other third place finishes from Bethany competitors included Black in the 400 (1:01.52), the 4x100 relay of Black, Bodo, senior Rachael Katsur (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) and junior Kelli McAbier (Gnadenhutten, Ohio/Indian Valley) (51.99), senior Alissa Moss (Washington, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) in the 3,000 Steeplechase (13:25.88) and junior Tara Harris (Zanesville, Ohio) in the discus (109-10).

For the men, freshman Nathanial Hensh (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) took first place for the Bison in the pole vault, as he cleared 13-10. Also scoring in the event was sophomore Clinton Fisher (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central) with a third place effort (10-5.25).

Bethany’s top finish on the track was their 4x100 relay team of junior Danny Farray (Queens, N.Y./Msg. McClancy), freshman Marcus Johnson (Tampa, Fla./Thomas Johnson), freshman Ed Holmes (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) and senior Taylor McNeil (Old Saybrook, Conn.) earning second with a time of 43.67.

Other top showings on the track included Johnson earning fourth in the 100 (11.24) and McNeil placing third in the 200 (23.16). Highlighting the field event results was freshman Michael Newman (Tampa, Fla./T.T, Robinson) and sophomore Seth Myers (Valley Grove, W.Va./Wheeling Park) earning third (131-00) and fourth (128-11) respectively in the discus, while Myers also claimed fourth in the shot put (43-8.5). Also taking fourth place was senior James Malone (Wellsville, Ohio) in the javelin (147-11).

Both teams will return to action next Saturday by competing at the Indiana (Pa.) University Invitational.
