May 17 - TROY, N.Y. – The opening day for the Bethany College men’s and women’s track and field teams at the 2012 ECAC Championships was highlighted by a top-five finish in a throwing event. The meet, which is being held at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), will conclude Friday.

In the men’s javelin, sophomore Ben Gregg (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) finished off his second season in a big way. He won his flight and finished fifth overall with a top throw of 56.30 meters, which scored four team points for the Bison.

The only other Bison in action Thursday was sophomore Paige Prato (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes). She competed in the 100 preliminaries, but her time of 12.92 seconds did not advance her to Friday’s championship heat. Prato will still be competing Friday in the 200 and the 4x100 relay with senior Kaitlyn Black (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley), sophomore Hayley Acree (Middlebourne, W.Va./Tyler Consolidated) and freshman Megan Butler (Brooklyn, N.Y./Homeschool).

In addition to the relay, Black will also be running in the 400. For the men, sophomore Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) will be racing in the 800 and the 4x100 relay of sophomore Lamine Balde (Guinea/William L. Sayre), junior Raymear Pinchom (Willingboro, N.J.), freshman Derrick Tolliver (Bellaire, Ohio) and freshman Anthony Thompson (Colquitt, Ga./Miller County) will be in action as well.
