BISON BACK ON THE TRACK AT ALLEGHENY INVITATIONAL

May 11 - MEADVILLE, Pa. – Competing in its first meet in nearly two weeks, the Bethany College men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the unscored Allegheny Invitational, which gave the Bison competitors a chance to better their times for next week’s ECAC Championships.

The top individual effort came in the women’s 200 meters where sophomore Paige Prato (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) qualified for the ECAC meet next week in her third event. She finished in a time of 26.36 seconds, which was good for fourth place overall out of 19 runners and means she will compete in the 100, 200 and 4x100 relay at ECACs.

Senior Kaitlyn Black (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) turned in a good time in the 400, as she finished in 58.83 seconds, her second fastest time of the season, to take sixth place overall. Black and Prato also ran on the 4x100 relay with sophomore Hayley Acree (Middlebourne, W.Va./Tyler Consolidated) and freshman Megan Butler (Brooklyn, N.Y./Homeschool), and they placed seventh with a time of 50.73, also the foursome’s second-fastest time of the season.

The men’s team was led by the 4x400 relay. Sophomore Lamine Balde (Guinea/William L. Sayre), sophomore Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), senior Joe Douglas (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) and freshman Derrick Tolliver (Bellaire, Ohio) earned third place by finishing in 3:25.11.

James also ran in a very competitive 800 field and posted a solid time of 1:54.97, which was good for 11th place out of 37 runners. The top placement in an individual event came in the field. Sophomore Ben Gregg (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) had a best mark of 179 feet, five inches, his second-best throw of the season, to take sixth place in the javelin.

Bethany will send many of the same competitors who were at Allegheny to the ECAC Championships next week. The meet will be at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. and run from May 17-18.
