March 5 – ADA, Ohio – The Bethany College men’s indoor track & field team took a trio of athletes to the Polar Bear Final Qualifier hosted by Ohio Northern University on Saturday. In the meet, the group of Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon), Kyle Minger (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and Andre Butler (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) combined for four top-five finishes.
Moore competed twice in field events during the course of the day, participating in both the long jump and the triple jump events. The senior came into the meet ranked 14th in the Nation in the event and tallied a first-place finish with a jump of 22-01.75. He then when on to notch a fourth-place mark in the triple jump (44-06.25).
Moore, who is looking for another trip to the NCAA National Indoor Championships, currently ranks tied for 15th in the Nation on the long jump list, with his best distance coming at the PAC Championships (23-02.75).
In the running events, Butler competed in the 200 meter, while Minger ran in the 400. Butler tallied a third-place finish out of 21 runners (22.63) while Minger finished fifth in a field of 21 with a final time of 50.25.
Announcements for the athletes that will be making the trip to NCAA Nationals will be made on Monday, March 7, with the National Championships being held on March 11 and 12.
Bethany’s outdoor season will also begin on Friday and Saturday, March 11 and 12, as they travel to Coastal Carolina University to compete in the Shamrock Invitational.
